I can’t believe Easter is in 8 days!! Is it just me or does Easter seem too early this year?
Our daffodils and tulips have started growing out of the ground, and the trees are budding, BUT we also have a blanket of snow still melting from a snow storm last week.
To prepare for Easter this year I had the kids help me make some new egg hunt baskets!
We started with a pile of old orchard boxes that have been on our enclosed back porch since we moved in to our house 3.5 years ago. As some of you may know we bought our house from my husband’s family after his grandmother passed away. As we’ve worked our way through different spaces during our renovation, I’ve been saving items I knew I could/would/might use. These baskets were in a space we haven’t worked on, but I knew they were there, and that I wanted to save them to use later.
The baskets were pretty gross. They were high up on top of a built-in cabinet and haven’t been touched in over 4 years (at a minimum). Our sunroom houses the cellar access and currently functions as garage overflow storage and a makeshift greenhouse. Eventually, I’d like to finish it off as a breakfast room with cabinetry to use as an extension for our indoor & outdoor entertaining spaces. Until then it will be continue to be our easily accessible glorified shed.
Needless to say, the first step in getting these baskets DIY ready was to clean off all the cobwebs, dust, and grime that had accumulated over the years they had lain untouched.
Next up, paint!

Fusion Mineral Paint provided us with the paint products for this project. We picked two fantastic springy colors from their Tones for Tots line; a pretty pale teal called Little Teapot and a barely blush neutral pink called Little Piggy. The paint goes on so smoothly, especially with their Synthetic Bristle Angled Paintbrush.
To protect the paint on the handles from wear we topped the paint with Fusion’s Clear Tough Coat.
Both colors covered very well.
To completely cover the dark text on the baskets I used 3 coats of paint.
To embellish the baskets I picked up white pom pom trim. It makes me think of little bunny tails! I used a hot glue gun to attach the trim making sure to cover the exposed edges of the cardboard as much as possible.
Teal and Pink Spritz™ Shredded Filler I found at Target coordinated with the paint perfectly!
To customize the baskets further, lighten or darken the paint to add a child’s name or a spring motif!
Now head on out and find some eggs!!
Have a wonderful Easter friends! Here’s hoping you’ll find some spring weather also!
1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
