Time for some One Room Challenge™ Week 3 updates!
Paint, paint, paint. This week I spent all of my ORC project time with a paintbrush in hand.
First, the vertical plank walls, built-in, and baseboards got a final coat of white paint. Originally, I was using Decorator’s White paint we had leftover from painting the rest of our interior walls BUT it looked too stark and a little blue in her room so I pulled out a custom gallon we had left from when we originally installed the built-ins and gave everything a coat of that paint. It has a much warmer undertone which makes the room feel cozier.
In case you’re interested here’s the formula:
We still need to paint the wall to the right of the built-in and the textured (ick) ceiling. Painting the ceiling will be an interesting process since we have nowhere to empty her room to while we paint it. We also painted the planks after they had been installed so in some areas paint filled the gaps. I’m working on a plan to either scrape the paint from the gaps or use a dark paint/permanent marker to darken those spaces back up.
Paint project #2 was touching up the wood floors. Not only had they significantly darkened from 6 years of traffic, but there were many areas of scratched up paint from moving furniture around. We originally painted them with Benjamin Moore Stone House just before we moved in. Since we’ve been happy with the color, I pulled out the leftover paint and gave the floor a new coat.
Her room is looking so clean and new again!
While we’re discussing the floors let’s talk about the new are rug.
Rugs are often hard to buy online. The little images don’t always give a good representation of what the rug will look like as an 8′ x 10′. Colors are also hard to read online because of photo editing, lighting, and individual screen settings. I was looking for a neutral rug with some color and I rolled the dice on Boutique Rugs, Loranger Area Rug.
As you can see the colors are not exact but I LOVE it! Neutral. Check! Pops of color. Check! I was especially excited about the splashes of pink. They add a perfect dose of subtle femininity to her room.
For as much time as I spent in this room this week we actually have no new items to completely check off the to-do list this week. While I spent my time this week painting my husband started stripping paint off of the bookcase. It looks like the previous owners had started spray painting and/or using a primer to seal in some water marks. We had planned on sanding the piece to raw wood but between the stubborn paint splotches and water stains we may end up painting the piece after all.
Hopefully we’ll have the bookcase finished up by next week. I need to get all of our daughter’s books and things organized and out of the way. Clutter drives me crazy!

I wasn’t sure how it would look in person but loved how it looked online and I’m so happy it came in looking just as pretty as I hoped.
