This week we had time to hang a “new” light fixture in the space.
This capiz shell beauty was found at our local Restore for $10.00!! I had been eyeing the fixture for several weeks and finally decided I couldn’t pass it up. From it’s position hanging from the ceiling, I actually thought it was a cream stained glass. When an employee pulled it down and handed it to me I quickly realized, because it weighed next to nothing, that it was in fact not glass but capiz shell. We were already working on the plan for our daughter’s beachy bedroom so a shell pendant was the perfect find! It originally had a (gross, dirty) macrame style trim glued around the bottom edge. It was already partially falling off and a quick pull removed the rest of it. I didn’t even have to scrape glue because it all came off with the trim.
The one thing I didn’t love about the fixture was the shiny brass and golden electrical wiring that looked brand new and didn’t match the antique brass hanger on the top of the lamp. Fortunately, a can of spray paint and a sanding sponge made this an easy fix.
Spray Painting Lighting Hardware
Step 1: Use a sanding sponge to rough up the metal surfaces for the best adhesion.
Step 2: Use newspaper & painters tape to cover the parts of the fixture that should remain unpainted.
Step 3: Spray paint the hanging hardware. We used a Rust-oleum Primer + Rust-oleum Metallic Antique Brass Spray Paint. This Antique Brass, Rust-oleum Universal Metallic Paint & Primer In One is also a great choice.
Easy peasy!
Isn’t it gorgeous!?!
And, how about the sneak peeks of the sunset mural and DIY Bamboo Headboard!?
I’m happy to report that this week we were finally able to check off some more projects from the to-do list. Along with hanging the light fixture I also finished painting the baseboard and window trim. I was also able to spend a good chunk of today working on painting the bookcase.
