The day is finally here! The past 8 weeks have flown by and our daughter’s Beachy Bohemian Bedroom is ready to reveal.
I want to give a huge thank you to Linda of Calling It Home for once again taking on the huge task of planning and coordinating the One Room Challenge™. Over the years this challenge has been great motivation for us to tackle the remaining unfinished spaces in our fixer upper. We still have plenty of spaces to finish but once again we are now one room closer!
We started this One Room Challenge with ONE project in the space already complete; the Ikea dressers built-in window seat. Other than that, everything in the space was redone, replaced, or dreamed up & DIY’d to create a dreamy beachy bohemian oasis.
If you haven’t been following along from the beginning, here’s the links to catch up.

Beachy Bohemian Girls Bedroom Reveal
Welcome in!
As soon as you open the door you can see the sunset mural. I used an organic edge for the blue band to mimic water and the three bands of pink & orange paint were painted to fill up the remainder of the space and look like a sunset sky.
One of the newest (and unplanned) additions to the room is the pretty macrame wall hanging.
A few weeks ago, while our daughter was spending the night at her grandparent’s, she completed this macrame wall hanging. She wanted to add it to her room and it looks perfect on her door! They used a cotton cord with gold fleck and glued seashells that were collected on our beach trip last year to the bottom.
The wall to the left when you walk in the door was given a vertical plank treatment. We painted the planks after they were installed on the wall and in hindsight this wasn’t a very good idea because in some areas the paint filled in the gaps. I had to put in a bit more work but the thin end of these dual-tip black permanent markers worked perfectly to darken the gaps back up and make the spaces look good as new. Some spray painted metal bamboo hooks hung next to the closet provide a space to hang outfits and accessories. The weathered bookcase may have been a lengthy project but I was more than happy to save this beautiful piece from the side of the road where it was placed for bulk trash pickup. It holds a ton of books and almost all of our daughter’s littlest toys, art supplies, jewelry, and hair accessories. Jars and baskets inside and on top of the bookcase corral little items and notebooks.
On the opposite wall we also installed vertical planks above the existing built-in. I don’t know what it is about the white vertical planks but it really makes you feel like you’ve entered a beach cottage every time you enter this room. We added painted shutters to the windows and my husband built wood brackets for open shelves on each side of the window. We used wood dowels for curtain rods. The curtain rod dowel is hung by two 1.5″x12″ strips of leather. I bought a 6″x12″ sheet of Bourbon Brown tooling leather and cut it into 4 strips. Each strip was looped in half and screwed directly into the wall. The rod rests in the loops.
I tried to squeeze as much function and storage as I could into this space. A painted wood accordion peg rack is perfect for hanging pretty jewelry.
Lots of baskets and woven textures add to the beachy bohemian aesthetic.
I purchased this vintage mirror a while back with the plan of hanging it above our daughter’s desk. The attached shelf was painted to match the wall and hung at the water level to mimic a setting sun. Such a simple addition that really adds to the beauty of her sunset wall.
The desk and matching stool are some of the only items left in her room that weren’t given a coat (or 3) of paint. They aren’t in perfect condition and in a year or two may need to be redone but for now I wanted to keep a wood element and like how the deeper tone works with the headboard, guitar, and the darker wood baskets.
The same blue paint from the mural and mirror was also used to paint a wood baby doll cradle. Originally the cradle was painted red. Not only is teal blue our daughter’s favorite color but look how it pulls out the little speckles of light blue in the rug.
Let’s talk about the end tables. The tops are old barn wood. The aprons are stained new wood. The front 2 legs of each end table were snatched and cut down from a castoff end table. Each two-legged table was painted with white paint and distressed (only on the tops and aprons) and then mounted to painted shutters. The shutters were another bulk trash find! The ultimate use-what-you-have-on-hand project.
The bamboo loop headboard is another DIY. I hope to share a tutorial with the materials and measurements in the near future.
The ocean artwork is a Laporte Images stock photo printed on textured paper and hung in a vintage mat & frame.
The capiz shell chandelier is a vintage find from Restore. It’s one of my favorite finds ever!
Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the big reveal.
I had so much fun designing this room and hope it inspires you to DIY design. Almost everything in this room was DIY’d, redone, or thrifted. Paint was my best friend in this space! The power of paint never gets old AND there is literally a perfect paint for every surface and every project you could ever dream up.
